Concrete
The concrete is a proportioned mixture of cement, aggregates, water and additives which can very according to its use
Cement cement plays the part of binder of the hydraulic concrete. Cement is made up d'un mixture out of argillaceous limestone and lime powder which hardens with l'eau. To make concrete or mortar, one uses ordinary gray cement said Portland cement. It is generally sold out of bag of 25, 35 even 50 kg.
Sable or aggregate One generally uses career or stream sand disencumbered of the impurities, never of sea sand or sand of fill. The latter contain harmful elements for the quality of the concrete and the mortar. Proportionings are given most of the time in volume of dry sand.
Eau Just like the other components of the mixture, l'eau must be clean. Proportioning must show a detailed attention: too much d'eau in the concrete involves the birth of cracks and a loss of resistance to the moment of drying.
Gravier The gravel is composed of rock particles smooth when they are resulting d'une river (c'est the gravel most required) or crushed when they come d'une career. It is necessary imperatively that the gravel is disencumbered of mud and of dirtinesses qu'il could contain before manufacturing the concrete. There are various gravel gauges. The largest gauges are used in general for the foundations and the large?uvre. The resistance of the concrete will be d'autant larger than you will mix various gravel gauges.
Additives The additives (additive) are incorporated in the concrete in small quantity (less than 10 kg/m3). The superplastifiants or thinners have similar properties with those of water reducers, but with an effectiveness much more important. They allow extreme, useful fluidities to produce concretes autoplaçants, or autonivelants. (liquid cover...) Other additives make it possible to modify the catch and hardening like the concrete accelerators which make it possible to strike quickly, or on the contrary retarders, used to maintain the workability of the concrete The water repellents of mass make the concretes impermeable to the liquids, the air-entraining agents as for them will return the de-icing them insensitive with freezing and products. Association cement-water generates extremely complex reactions. Silicates and aluminates develop during the phase of hydration. They then form a crystalline gel which marks the beginning of the phenomenon of "catch". During the phase of hardening, which can last several months, the multiplication of the microcrystals increase the mechanical resistances: the concrete is transformed then into a true composite rock.
Make concrete Proportions of the mixture (according to regulation or DTU) For a bag of 25 kg cement: 40 liters of sand either 50 kg 50 liters of gravel or 75 kg 10 liters d'eau approximately Start your concrete-mixer. Pour with l interior the gravel, half of sand and approximately half of the d'eau quantity necessary. When the gravel and sand uniformly are wet and mixed, add cement. Add after a few moments the remainder of sand. Gradually pour l'eau while taking care well not to add some more than envisaged. Let the concrete-mixer still turn a few moments. The concrete must have a consistent consistency, wet surfaces some and a little oily. Pour finally the concrete in a wheelbarrow, buckets or directly on your work and use it quickly. Direct the tank of the concrete-mixer downwards to empty it completely its contents and to wash it with large water.
